Lawyer wants Parvathy to be flown to Chennai

R Karuppan, former president of the Madras High Court Advocates Association and Member of the Bar Council of Tamil Nadu, has moved the apex court seeking directions to send a special plane to Colombo for Parvathy Ammal, mother of slain LTTE leader Vellupillai Prabhakaran in order to bring her to Chennai for urgent medical treatment.

The petition was filed and numbered on Thursday and is coming up for hearing on Friday. Karuppan contended that sending back the 86-year-old Parvathy Ammal to Malaysia after she had a valid visa issued by the Indian High Commission was a bizarre act. Now she had gone back to Lanka.

The Madras High Court has been moved to direct the state government to conduct a time bound inquiry into alleged irregularities in purchase of life saving drugs and equipment by Tamil Nadu Medical Services Corporation (TNMSC).

In a PIL,a resident of Gobichettipalayam in Erode district, M R Govindraj also sought a direction to the corporation to strictly adhere to statutory rules and regulations in the purchase of drugs and equipment for government hospitals state and to submit a report to the court.
